Spider-Man: No Way Home

Marvel's blockbuster is an epic wonder. But is it really any good?

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Marvel's latest wonder landed in theaters December 2021
But I still ain't going to the movies for shit. Sure, things seem to have died down much more than they had in the prior year and a half or so. But still, there are too many unknowns, and technology has evolved greatly over the years, particularly during this pandemic
So around mid-March 2022, the third of the MCU Spidey trilogies made its way on to home streaming services for purchase. And that's when yours truly got to experience the magic, in surround sound and in all of its 4k glory. Maybe not quite as on par as in the theater but close enough for my liking and a hell of a lot safer

Being the big MCU fan I am, I had seen the trailer like millions of others and was excited to watch the latest entry in the Tom Holland led series. And when I was finally able to watch it, I was not disappointed

Well, at least not completely. I was extremely entertained as I often am with Marvel films. Although to fully enjoy some of their films you really have to turn your brain off. At least I do. If I don't it's almost insulting the shit they sometimes want us to go along with

This is not to say that is a deal breaker, and the truth is you have to do that for the majority of movies you watch. I will never tell you that Marvel movies are perfect. They certainly have their flaws. But my fandom isn't based on perfection. Otherwise, I wouldn't be a fan of much of shit. To lure me as a fan all you need is more positives than dumb ass moments and I'll let the dumb ass moments slide

And to me this film was full of dumb ass moments

Read on for my opinion. But not if you haven't watched the film yet. SPOILERS BELOW!

Very Entertaining Flick? Definitely
Best Marvel Movie Ever? Uh, No

And I don't even know to which film I would give that title. But I can tell you 100% it's not this one. Actually check that, the best Marvel movie imo is Avengers: Infinity War

Anway, there are two problems that I have with the vast majority of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

The first is that annoying ass moral compass that is insisted on being shoved down our throats. It's what made Captain America so fucking annoying. But Cap was just a product of his environment. With all due respect to Mr Stan Lee and Mr Steve Ditko (co-creators of Spider-Man and Dr Strange), these comic book characters were created back during a very different time period. Life has evolved and there are so many different ways to be morally wealthy these days, that the moral fortitudes in the Marvel films often feel beyond outdated. It's the same way I feel about that old school shit. The implication is always that your way is the only correct way, and that type of thinking irks me. Even in a movie

And my other problem is the lack of logic that many of these stories possess. I get that the MCU is a different world than the one we exist in, and because of that, things are possible in that world that can't be done in ours. But what these people often decide to do with that is just sometimes fucking stupid

And that leads me to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fantastic, marvel of an adventure. Absolutely stupid plot

The stupidity started from the beginning and never seemed interested in finding any logic

This film picks up right where its far superior predecessor left off
First of all, did you notice that both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home ended the same way?

At the end of Homecoming, Peter spideys his way back into his room in full costume and unexpectedly runs into his Aunt May, accidentally revealing his identity to her. This results in Aunt May saying "what the--" before the screen fades to credits

At the end of Far From Home, Mysterio reveals Peter's identity to the world on a pre-recorded message before his death. Upon seeing the reveal, Peter says "what the--" before the screen fades to credits
And that is where this film picks up. From the opening scene I was very giddy to see the return of one of my favorite characters from the first Tobey Maguire trilogy, J Jonah Jameson, played by the terrific JK Simmons (who is not only an amazing actor, but apparently also sells Farmer's Insurance). I loved his character, especially in that second Spider-Man film where he had the most involvement

He's still not at all a fan of Spidey, and for reasons unknown, the entire world for the most part seems to be siding with Mysterio. Why? Nothing that eventually happened in Far From Home would reveal why he would legitimately have any fans. It doesn't appear that people are a fan of Mysterio as much as they seem to really just hate Spider-Man

While I was happy to see my man Jameson, his presence also confused me. At this point, Strange hasn't concocted any spells in the spidey-verse just yet. So why is it that when Mysterio reveals Parker's identity and his picture is plastered for the world to see, did Jameson not recognize that he wasn't the Tobey Maguire Peter Parker who used to work for him? And is this in real time? Because if so, there was no explanation of where Jameson has been for the past 20 years. And did he blip?

But fine. I already told you I need to turn my brain off when watching MCU movies anyway. The story continues and now with Mysterio's revelation, everyone knows who Peter is and what he does. They also somehow know about MJ and Ned. For reasons I still don't fully understand, that prevented all three of these grown ass children from being accepted into college. Mmmm, so the last lies of the villain in the previous film is all that is needed to prevent three kids from ever obtaining an education? Only in fucking Marvel movies

It's especially confusing for these movies that seem to try so hard to convey they are the moral authority on everything. Doesn't sound like it took much to fuck up Peter, MJ and Ned's lives to me

If the stupidity had stopped here I would have been okay. Unfortunately for us all....it does not

MJ and Peter escape the craziness of Mysterio's announcement....albeit temporarily

We then find out that Happy and May - who began dating in Far From Home - have decided to call it quits. Well, May decided to call it quits much to Happy's chagrin. He then immediately turns into the creepy ex. Shortly after that MJ and Peter make their way home. May and MJ meet for the first time, and May and Happy are eventually filled in on what's going on. It's probably something about news helicopters and shit outside your residence that will do that to you

Everyone in the apartment along with Ned are then detained by the fucks in charge. Keep in mind, Mysterio's announcement was like 15 mins prior. So I didn't understand how they knew what they knew. Like when the one cop said that May encouraged her nephew's vigilante activities. Did Mysterio tell you that too? And what was she supposed to do to her family member turned vigilante? Turn him in? Smh

Now, in addition to loving the MCU movies, I'm also a big fan of the MCU television shows previously on Netflix (but now on Disney+ as well, finally). I was really disappointed when they cancelled those shows because I was really into them. But I incorrectly assumed that new episodes of those shows would be brought back when Disney+ rolled out. Not only were there no new episodes coming out but the old episodes weren't even initially added to the streaming service

The MCU television show heroes include Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders, which is the Avengers like team-up of all of these television show heroes minus Punisher. There was a lot of speculation before Avengers: Endgame came out that Marvel would incorporate the tv characters in the movie to help save half the universe, but it never materialized

While I really enjoyed all of the shows and Luke Cage was the first one I discovered of that group, my favorite of the bunch was actually Daredevil. Iron Fist was really good to me too although for some reason it wasn't well liked. The second season ended on a note that REALLY had me ready for season three but that's when it was cancelled. Also worth noting is that the tv shows are rated TV-MA, which is a really nice departure from the campiness of the movies

Anyway, I said all of that to say I was absolutely beside myself when I saw Daredevil himself, Matt Murdock, show up in this film as Peter's lawyer. "How did you do that?....I'm a really good lawyer" (lol....right). Finally combining the movie and tv characters actually started a little earlier at the end of 2021. During the Disney+ series Hawkeye, the main villain from Daredevil shows up. Another moment where I lost my shit!

Murdock tells Spidey he's good with the law but Happy, due to his connection with Stark technology used to execute apparent world-wide hero Mysterio, would definitely need to lawyer up

Then comes the next biggest disappointment in the lives of the trio of adults masquerading as kids. The school they really wanted to attend, MIT, gave them all a big fat no thanks to their involvement with Spidey

Keep in mind, this is what, the twenty-something film in the MCU franchise. That is to say, we've seen some shit at this point. Peter's situation is unfortunate, but I would hardly consider this say on a Thanos level threat. But to Peter it was a super big deal. And that's where the film began to once again lose me
And if I'm being honest, this leads us to the dumbest part of the movie. It's the most important part but it lacks so much logic that I find myself struggling to just go along with it

Peter decides he's had enough of this messed up new life, and visits with his old Avenger buddy Dr Strange. This was of course after spotting a wizard like ornament hanging in the deli where MJ works, the location where the trio learned they weren't accepted into MIT. The fact that he contacts Strange isn't a bad thing. After all, as Strange points out they did save half of the universe together. But here was another example of what a character does with their ability that was questionable at best

Peter's request is very specific. Now that the whole world knows he's Spiderman he wants his friend to cast a spell to make the world forget that he's Spiderman. Even though this was completely unnecessary at this stage, at its core I think it's actually a pretty good idea. I'm still with him at this point
We learn that because Strange blipped and Wong didn't, Wong is now the Sorcerer Supreme on a technicality. Another stupid ass storyline, but whatevs. Eventually after some back and forth, Strange kinda sorta gets permission from Wong to conduct a major spell to grant Peter's request. As he tells Peter everyone is about to forget that he's Spiderman, this is where the story descends into a spiral of stupidity that irks me every time

Peter didn't really want EVERYONE to forget he's Spiderman, even though that was exactly what he asked for. He began a list of people who should still know. But even as Strange continues to warn him about the dangers of changing the spell in the middle of it, this little bastard CONTINUES TO CHANGE THE FUCKING SPELL!

Let's stop right here for a second. At one point, Strange tells him that with everything they've been through it's easy to forget that he's still "just a kid". Okay, but being a kid doesn't mean you're stupid. Peter is not only not stupid, he's really quite brilliant. Something we get to see on full display in the Mirror Dimension scene
So when this grand wizard, whom he should trust completely at this point, warns him repeatedly about changing the spell that he changes five or six times, it gets to a point where it really feels like our intelligence is being insulted

Especially given the reasons for Peter's stubbornness. MJ was first. Of course, that's his girl. And the MCU is all fucked up when it comes to people making bad decisions based on their feelings for their significant other. But in a scene shortly before that, Peter told MJ that when she found out he was Spiderman, that was the greatest thing for him because everyone he wanted to know, knew

Then Ned was next. Ned found out first - back in Homecoming - that Peter was really Spidey

Then Peter wanted Aunt May to still remember he was Spidey. Even saying that when she found out he was Spiderman "it was really messy and I don't think I can go through with that again" (Bitch when?! All May said was "what the--", and then she went on to become one of his biggest supporters)
Then he insisted Happy should still know

He sums up his feelings to Strange during the spell - the same spell Strange told him repeatedly was dangerous to change mid-cast - like this; "basically everyone who knew that I was Spiderman before should still know"

Oh for fuck's sake! This part is too stupid to take seriously. We know this is why the events that followed happened in the first place. But anytime catastrophic events like in this film are brought to the forefront, the question is always could it have been avoided. And the answer to that question in this case is a resounding 'yes'

Dude, it's not like 400 million people knew you were Spidey before Mysterio outed you. You gave Strange exactly four names. When you compare that to how many times Strange warned him about changing the spell, why the fuck couldn't Peter just tell those four people again?

Later in the film, Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker proves to MJ he's Spiderman in his dimension, and it took all of two minutes. The spell wasn't going to cause MJ to completely forget that she knew him, just that he was Spiderman. As we learned later with the other Spideys, this is a very easily provable thing for a real Spiderman

He could have even told them why they don't remember, and what happened to make it so that he needed to prove it to them again. And not only that, but had he done it this way (spoiler alert) AUNT MAY WOULD FUCKING STILL BE ALIVE!

But then we wouldn't have a film...so there's that, I guess

Fine. Treat us like idiots for whatever reason. It's not the first time and probably won't be the last

After Peter's umpteenth amendment to the spell, Strange shuts it down mid-cast in an attempt to prevent it from causing irrevocable damage. He then mentions that he assumed Peter tried speaking with the admissions people to plead his case, to which Peter responded asking if he could do that. While Strange made a good point in him not even trying to plead his case before asking him to brainwash the entire population, with the magnitude of that spell it's odd that Strange didn't ask about that prior to casting it either

Strange kicks Peter out of the Sanctorum, and almost immediately we learn that Strange didn't shut the spell down soon enough

In the scene where the trio finds out they didn't get into MIT, Flash Thompson explodes into the shop celebrating after he did. He saw their reaction and asked "you guys didn't get in?"

To which Ned hilariously replies "yeah because we're actually friends with Spider-Man". Flash mumbles something about having to get to a mixer for new students and leaves

After Peter is kicked out of the Sanctorum, he calls Flash (Shit, maybe Flash did know Spider-Man) to find out where the lady is from the college. Flash tells him she left, heading to the airport to fly back to Boston

Peter gets all suited and meets her car on the freeway, that is OF COURSE stuck in traffic. And this leads us to the next part of the movie that pissed me off. The fucking MIT lady

This is another thing I'm not very fond of when it comes to Marvel films. I already thought the backlash the trio were getting over Mysterio's old lying ass was bullshit in the first place. But it seems like all these morally superior people, especially in Marvel films, always seem to think they have you all figured out....until they need your help. This woman was pretty arrogant with the way she treated Peter in the beginning

But then, during their conversation, we get our first blast from the past. Peter's tingle first goes off, then he notices people running on the freeway overpass. Doc Ock and all of his tentacle glory appears really out of nowhere to terrorize the freeway. He's looking to crush Spidey and continue the battle he last remembers having with him. Peter tells the MIT lady she should get out of the car, and OF COURSE the fucking door is jammed. Probably had never been jammed ever in the history of life. But it happens to be jammed at this exact moment (insert eye roll here)

Spidey and Dr Octavius battle on the freeway. Only one problem. Dr Octopus is unaware that he is fighting a different Spidey in a different universe. I always lol at that one scene:

"You're not Peter Parker"

"Aggghhhhh! I'm so confused right now!"

This dimension's Peter unleashes Nanotech on the doc, who recognizes it right away. Peter uses that technology to overpower the doc's tentacles, saving the annoying ass MIT lady and the day all at the same time. Peter helps the annoying lady out of the car as she suddenly (albeit not unexpectedly) has a change of heart. She tells Peter she's going to talk to admissions about letting them into MIT. Reeeeaaally? You do realize the shit he dealt with on the freeway is the only reason you rejected him and his friends in the first place, right? I'da just let her ass die on the goddamn freeway. "Peter, you're a hero". Uhh, yeah bitch

Finally, as Peter is trying to find out who Ock is, they are interrupted again first by Peter's tingle, then by a familiar bomb. At least it was familiar to all of us who have seen the original Spidey trilogy. It was a bomb from the Green Goblin himself. Ock recognizes him and just as more questions arise, both Peter and Ock are transported to the Sanctorum by Strange. Ock is trapped behind a glass door along with The Lizard while Peter remains free

Strange explains that the spell he botched, where he wanted everyone to forget he was Spider-Man, started pulling everyone who knows he's Spider-Man from other universes into theirs. Um, why? Like, what part of the spell that Peter botched specifically resulted in this weird ass side effect? Strange tells him that they should avoid engaging with the characters from other dimensions, because "the multiverse is something we know frightenedly little about". And we know the subtitle for Dr Strange 2 is In the Multiverse of Madness

However it happened, it happened. And just like that Parker finds himself in quite a pickle, making one dumb ass decision after the next. It's not heroic to me when you vow to fix the mess you created in the first place. That's what you're supposed to do. You need to fix this. He promises Strange he'll clean up his mess but states that he needs help

Understandable. Who's he going to call in for assistance? Falcon, aka the new Cap? Maybe Wanda? Hell even Hawkeye? Nah. He needs MJ and Ned. Word?

MJ and Ned make their way to the Sanctum Sanctorum, much to Strange's dismay. Not too long after they arrive, they are introduced literally to the characters from the multiverse. Strange had previously said he didn't know how many visitors they had, to which Peter replied he saw another one. "He was like a flying green elf"

Strange explained how to capture them in the glass, same as he did for the Lizard and Ock. Later, Peter is out searching for Goblin and he instead runs into two more blasts from the past. The first two villains we meet (Ock and Goblin) are from the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. The Lizard and the next two villains we meet are from the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man double feature

A Spidey Villain Here. A Spidey Villain There. A Spidey Villain Everywhere

Next up, we meet Spider-Man nemesis' Electro and Sandman. Electro feels a new kind of energy in this dimension that he's really drawn to. Sandman just wants to know what the hell is going on. Eventually they both end up getting glassed up in the Sanctorum. Now with all but one of the other dimension villains locked up in the Sanctum, the plan shifts back in favor of our heroes

Then Goblin shows up. This time at May's job. He claims to be looking for Spider-Man's help but doesn't recognize Tom Holland's Parker. Neither May nor Peter know about Osborn's split personality syndrome but even if you didn't watch the first Spidey film, this movie briefly explains it when we see Osborn's Goblin mask hanging on a trash bin. May, with forever the moral fortitude of jesus christ himself, sympathizes with Osborn. But Peter in a very brief moment of actual reason, makes it clear the best thing for all of them is to send them back where they came from

Peter brings Norman back to the Sanctorum but doesn't imprison him like the rest. Norman recognizes the others and conversations ensue that really move the story along. Here they realize they were all killed fighting Spider-Man. As they are really making headway with figuring some shit out, Strange shows up and puts Osborn behind glass

He's also holding an ancient relic designed to reverse the spell and send everyone back to their own universe

That is, until Peter of course fucks it all up

You may not have been bothered by any of the stupidity we've seen so far, but that has not a goddamn thing to do with me! This part. This shit right here was so stupid I'm not ashamed to admit I almost turned the movie off

Tom Holland's Peter Parker should be well aware of how Spidey's nemesis can be, after fighting Vulture and Mysterio respectively. To say nothing of Thanos. Dude, fuck all that "there's good in everyone" bullshit. These people will kill Spider-Man - any Spider-Man - without thinking twice about it. And more importantly, as Strange pointed out, it's their fate

"In the grand calculus of the multiverse their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives" BARZ!!

But Peter - mostly guilted by his damn aunt - rebels against sending the villains back to their time to die. So much so that he actually fights the one person he came to for help in the fantastic aforementioned Mirror Dimension scene. Following that scene, not only did Parker come away with the relic but he also took Strange's ring off his fingers. So was that ring for anyone with ancient magic powers because I thought Wong was the SS now? But if that hadn't happened Ned would have never been able to accidentally call on the other Spider-Guys, so ya know, deeper into this dumb ass abyss we sink

After Parker overpowers Strange and leaves him in the MD, May takes everyone to Happy's place to begin rehab. Peter comes up with an antidote to cure them and decides to try it first on the initial villain he came across on the overpass; Doc Ock

Much to everyone's surprise....it actually works. Peter had figured out the reason Ock was so miserable, was because basically his tentacles were controlling him instead of the other way around. With this fix, Ock suddenly discovered peace for the first time in years. He was now a believer and wanted to help
While the others were awaiting their "fix", Peter's tingle goes off again. This time he's learned that Osborn has been taken over once again by his alter ego Green Goblin. Unlike many of the other scenes in the film, this was a great scene

Well, at least initially. The whole way Peter figured it out using his Spidey Sense, and the performance of Willem Devoe were second to none. This was probably my favorite scene in the movie. And I loved that it was Norman who turned after May's damn 'I have a dream' speech to her nephew. And I REALLY loved how Goblin called out her "holy moral mission" to Peter

Goblins speech inspires Electro to say fuck his rehab as he removes the device Peter put on his chest to drain him. As he does that, Goblin frees his hand from Spidey's web as Peter tells May to run

A massive fight ensues, with all of the very villains Peter tried to turn instead turning on him. Sandman goes after May. And Goblin, without a costume and still wearing Osborn, completely kicks Spidey's ass

"Strong enough to have it all. Too weak to take it!" MO BARZ!

When Goblin kicked Peter's ass, Peter exited the window and started climbing up the side of the building to get a breather. But the Lizard, who had initially chosen to stay in the van, found him and threw him back into the fight against Goblin

"I told you there'd be consequences"

Spidey's fight with Goblin resumes, and comes crashing through the lobby level at coincidentally the same time May makes her way to the lobby floor. Goblin tells him the same shit I noticed earlier
"Your weakness Peter is morality....it's choking you"

Out of nowhere, Superhero May (smh) stabs Norman in the neck with the antidote. But it doesn't do anything to him. He then tells her Norman was right. Peter got it (the moral fortitude, "that pathetic sickness") from May. It's a crazy day when I 100% agree with the villain in a Marvel flick

Then it gets worse. May (sigh), she stands there with what looks like a fucking plunger ready to fight. Can somebody please tell me what the fuck she thought she was gone do with that thing? Please. Anyone? Peter begs her to run. This idiot apparently somehow thought that moral fortitude meant she had superpowers. She stands in a fighting stance while Goblin has Peter by the neck, when suddenly Goblin's hang glider comes bursting through the glass door. With the way that thing ran over May, as soon as it hit her I knew there was NO WAY she was going HOME from that (see what I did there?)

But just to make sure she stayed down, Goblin then threw one of his bombs in her direction before jetting off on his hang glider. Peter tries to grab it but it slips through his hands and explodes. Goblin throws another bomb at the police cars in front of the building as he glides away into the night

Very much to my surprise, May was able to rise to her feet after the blow. That's because she still had to utter that famous line. But she was clearly not okay to me. Somehow Peter didn't initially notice that though

At this point, Peter realizes his mistake and that he "should have just listened to Strange"

But May, after having been "knocked on my ass" STILL begs to differ. Jesus christ lady! She tells Peter he did the right thing and then says that famous line....

"With great power there must also come great responsibility"

A variation of this line was uttered in the first Spider-Man as well as (kinda sorta) the Amazing Spider-Man, but in both cases it was said by Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben doesn't exist in the MCU Spiderman (even though in both of the aforementioned films Uncle Ben was married to Aunt May), so in this one it had to come from May. But we already knew that Uncle Ben didn't make it after saying that line in both films. So all that did was confirm what I already suspected

And sure enough, not too long after that Aunt May takes her last breath

Peter Parker's world is rocked! But his workload is about to get a lot lighter

I still don't fully remember why Jameson hates Spider-Man so much. His commentary after May died was very over the top and harsh. You had to know he lost his aunt in that chaos. And you don't even know the whole story. I mean, let's just keep it real. Jameson represents so many people in the world right now

Back at Ned's house, MJ and Ned hear about what happened to May and grow concerned because they haven't heard from Peter. While discussing it, Ned announces that he wishes they could find Peter. As he says that what looks like a portal starts to open. MJ notices, as does Ned, and he says it again. He was wearing Strange's ring after Peter gave it to him. He figures out that it's magic and he opens a portal as he wishes aloud that he could see his friend. The portal opens and we see Spider-Man. They call to him and he comes through the portal to where they are. He removes his mask....

And while it's Peter Parker it's not their Peter Parker. It's Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man Peter Parker. What I didn't understand is why MJ and Ned seemed so confused at this Peter Parker. They were let it on the secret about why the villains were there and even aided in explaining it to them initially. "There's no real way to sugarcoat that". So if the villains could be sent to them, why would it not make sense that the other Parker's can be sent to them as well?

Ned thought he opened the wrong portal to the wrong Peter Parker. Wha-- really dude? Okay then. MJ suggests he keeps doing it until they find the "real one". So despite him already summoning one PP to his world, he opens another portal using the very generic wish to "find Peter Parker". Isn't that the same shit you said the first time? Why would you say the exact same words without adding any new identifiers for YOUR Peter Parker?

And because of that generic wish he summons another incorrect Peter Parker. This time Tobey Maguire's old ass. This dude ain't have no Spidey suit on or nothin'. He actually looked like he was just at the park on a bench feeding pigeons

The portal closes right behind him for some reason. The Andrew Garfield portal stayed open the entire time they were talking but for whatever reason this one didn't. Because he wasn't wearing his suit they didn't recognize that he was Spider-Man in his dimension. Maguire's Peter was a nice guy to everyone....until he spotted Andrew Garfield. I don't really know what issue they could possibly have, but they start randomly shooting webs and shit at each other

But it quickly dies out as.....well I don't know what it was. Unnecessary? Whatever the case, Maguire's Parker says he's been trying to find Holland's Parker since he got there. He had a sense that Holland Parker needed their help. It wasn't the sense. It was probably May's words echoing through the multiverse

MJ tells them he does need their help and that the people in that room are all he has left. Then Maguire Parker asks if there's some place Holland would go that has meaning to him. A place where he would go to get away from everything. MJ knows exactly where that place may be
Okay, then why the fuck didn't she think to go there before Ned summoned Spidey 1 and 2? Dude, this movie is killing me!

Ned and MJ find Peter and embrace him in a scene that always gets me. In my own life I have been left completely alone without any support after going through some very deep issues. That shit is hard. Feeling the embrace of his closest friends seemed to get him too, as he started crying hard immediately after. His friends didn't say much as there wasn't much they could say. But they let him know they were there for him. And that's priceless

After a moment MJ reveals there are some people there. Holland's Parker having already lost so much that evening is skeptical. His two fellow Spider-Man appear and apologize to him about May. But Holland Parker ain't having it. Garfield Parker starts to explain he has some understanding about what he's going through. But Holland Parker cuts him off and tells him "don't tell me you know what I'm going through". He tells him her death was his fault, and that she "died for nothing". Apparently in his grief, Holland Parker missed the fact that Garfield Parker had on a Spider-Man suit as well. Even though he recognized that all of the villains were from their world

Holland Parker explains that at this point he doesn't care anymore, and all he wants to do is send everyone back where they came. He does apologize to them for getting them in that mess but says they have to go home now. He goes to take the relic from MJ but she denies giving it to him. She then motions that he should listen to his fellow Spidey's

Maguire Parker then starts explaining about what happened to his Uncle Ben in the first Spiderman. Then Garfield Parker explains what happened to his Gwen in the second Amazing Spider-Man. Both Spidey's have been where Holland Parker is now. They both also explained the rage they felt and how it affected them. Peter confesses to wanting to kill Goblin. He says he can still hear May's voice in his head. How that even when she was hurt she said they did the right thing. She told him that "with great power....
Maguire's Parker finishes...."comes great responsibility"

A very confused Holland Parker asked how he could have possibly known that, still completely unaware apparently of what the fuck it means to be a Spiderman in another dimension. Garfield Parker says "Uncle Ben said it"

"The day he died" added Maguire Parker. "Maybe she didn't die for nothing, Peter"

And then there were three

We received just a glimpse of Peter's excitement earlier in the movie to not have to carry the load alone, when MJ tells him to just let them know next time so they can come up with a plan together (instead of going to Strange first to brainwash the world). Even though he felt like he was supposed to carry the burden of being Spider-Man on his own, it's always nice when you can get a little assistance

So after the infamous line heard 'round the multiverse, Holland Peter was now on board with his counterparts. His entire energy changed in the next scene, their first scene in creating their collective plan for administering the anti-serum to the remaining villains

"So are you going to go into battle dressed as a cool youth pastor, or do you have your suit?"

Ned: "Peter"
(All 3): "Yeah?"
Ned: "Oh Peter, Peter"
(All 3): "Yeah we're all Peter dude"
Ned: "Peter Parker?"
(All 3): "Same again. We're all called Peter Parker"

Once the plan is developed to "cure that ass", Holland Parker calls Jameson's Daily Bugle open line with a message to the villains to basically meet him at the (MCU) Statue of Liberty

While waiting for the villains to show up to the trap, the movie took what I thought was an excellent time to provide us with short banter between the Spidey trio. The scene was fun to watch, and it seemed like a lot of it was ad-libbed. If it wasn't, it was at least performed like it was intended to be made up chatter between the three

Electro shows up first. This starts a high-flying act of battle as he tries to get the relic from Holland Parker, as Parker dives from the top of the statue. Ned has already opened a portal as he told Holland Peter he could do. Peter tosses the relic to MJ standing next to Ned, and all Ned has to do is close the portal. He can't

The Lizard shows up next. He grabs on to Maguire Parker's leg while he swung. Electro fights his old friend Garfield Parker in the meantime

During both of their respective fights, each Parker tells Holland Parker they need the cure for their particular foe. As Holland tries to satisfy both of their needs, he's grabbed by who shows up next....Sandman

Nothing is going according to plan, so the three Peter's have a pow wow. First they can't get their names together. Then they realize they suck at working as a team. Maguire Peter and Garfield Peter state they haven't been on a team. Holland Peter takes this time to brag about being an Avenger, to absolutely hilarious results:

"I don't want to brag but I will. I was in the Avengers"
"The Avengers?"
"Yeah"
"That's great"
"Thank you"
"What is that?"
"What, you don't have the Avengers?"
"Is that a band, are you in a band?"

Eventually they figure out to just focus, "trust your tingle" and coordinate their attacks. They decide to go after one target at a time

They go after Sandman first. But Lizard grabs Garfield Peter, who tosses the anti-serum to Holland Peter. After a couple of elaborate Spider-Man moves, they toss the cure to Maguire Peter who administers the cure to Sandman, changing him back to a human

They then turn their attention to Electro, who quite frankly kicks their ass

Garfield Parker had webbed up Lizard to toss the cure, and at this point the Lizard got out of the webs. He just so happened to be standing near where MJ and Ned are, with Ned still trying to close the damn portal

The Lizard of course makes a bee line to the portal, which Holland Parker notices. The Lizard gets into the portal while MJ and Ned run. Holland Parker fights Lizard while instructing Ned and MJ to run, with MJ still holding the relic. Ned and MJ run through the portal onto the runway of the Statue of Liberty. Lizard tries his best to get the relic, while Holland tries his best to stop him

Meanwhile, Electro has Garfield Parker by the short and curlys. He sends A LOT of electricity through Garfield's body, causing him to drop the anti-serum. Maguire Parker picks it up, but just as he does both he and Garfield are caught around the neck by the latest villain to join the party; Doc Ock

I can't speak for everyone else, but I actually did forget temporarily he was already cured. He tells Electro, "leave them, they're mine"

But Electro tells him he doesn't need his help. I think he too temporarily forgot that Ock was cured
That's likely what Ock was counting on. It doesn't take long for one of Ock's long tentacles to find their way around the neck of Electro. Ock then grabs the anti-serum Maguire dropped and gives it to Electro, reducing him back to just plain old fucking Max

We then go back to Ned and MJ, still running from Lizard. While running, Ned manages to open a portal filled with water that knocks Lizard back long enough to create some space. MJ grabs the anti-serum and, upon his call, tosses it to Holland who catches it and releases it in Lizard's mouth, causing him to turn into plain old Dr Connors

MJ and Ned decide they need to get rid of the relic. Ned opens another portal and for some reason they celebrate. He never had a problem opening a portal. It's closing one that's the fucking problem. Anyway, this particular portal happened to contain another deeply annoyed person; Dr Strange

Strange arrives just in time to see Dr Connors return to normal and that Peter's plan is working. It was also just in time to be impressed that Ned opened a portal

At this point, with all of these villains and even Strange showing up, I was either too engrossed in the movie, too high, or a combination of both to realize that we're still missing one

And the movie also decided to take this time to create some subtle reunions. First, Max and Garfield Parker peacefully reunite for the first time since The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Then Dr Octavius and Maguire Parker peacefully reunite for the first time since Spider-Man 2

As Strange confronts Holland and meets Garfield and Maguire, we're snapped back into reality with the appearance of the final remaining uncured villain

"Can the Spider-Man come out to play?!"

Goblin grabs the relic, as Ock grabs his hoverboard with one of his tentacles. Strange uses a lasso to grab the relic from Goblin, but wasn't aware that in the short time he had it, Goblin had put one of his bombs in the middle of it. It explodes and the Cap shield being held by the statue in the MCU SOL comes crashing down. This knocks MJ off sending her flying straight down toward her death

Holland Parker rushes to save her, but his effort is intercepted by Goblin. Garfield Parker then jumps in and does save her, in an emotional moment for him since he wasn't able to do the same for his own MJ
Ned was also tossed when the shield came crashing, and he's still dangling. Strange tries to create and contain a spell to end this but it doesn't work. It seems to backfire and created what looked like an absolute problem from the moment we saw it. We didn't know what the hell it meant, but we knew it could not be good!

But the good thing is that during this, Strange's cloak was able to save Ned. The shield finishes crashing through the statue and lands in the water. We then more clearly see what started with Strange's attempt to end this. There were a lot of purple cracks in what looked like a timeline. As I said, this could not be good

Strange tries his best to close up the cracks, while Holland Parker is still fucking with Goblin. Holland takes one of Goblin's own bombs and inserts it in the hoverboard, crashing it with Goblin on top of it, sending them both airborne

Peter calls up to MJ and Ned to make sure they are okay. When MJ confirms they are, Parker turns his attention to his aunt's killer

They battle. Hard. Maguire and Garfield take note at how hard Holland is beating him. They recognize that rage. It was the very thing they wanted to avoid in him. Ned and MJ watch on in horror as well. They were present when he admitted he wanted to tear Goblin apart. They knew what they were witnessing

Holland picks up a large piece of what looked liked part of Goblin's damaged Hoverboard. Whatever it was, it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what Peter wanted to do to his aunt's killer. As he carries it over to Goblin, rage in his eyes, he raises it and goes to deliver the final blow. Out of nowhere, Maguire steps in and intercepts the blow. Suddenly, Maguire is basically in an advanced arm wrestling match with Holland

The best part of this scene to me was Maguire's reaction. He didn't say a word, but his face said so much. When Holland pushed harder, Maguire told him 'no' without ever even changing his expression. It was a very big brotherly moment. And every bit of it felt like it was for Holland Peter's own good, and not like Maguire trying to be a bully. His look was more like "I'm going to stop you from doing something you'll regret that you can't take back"

Holland relents, probably realizing Maguire was right. But no sooner than Holland drops the "weapon", Goblin's ole bitch ass stabs Maguire in the back

Of course the fact that it was in the back was a dick move. But then the next part confuses the shit out of me. Not because I don't understand what happened. But because I find myself agreeing with the same asshole that just did the dick move that I DID NOT agree with. I can't figure out if I like this dude or wish that Maguire Peter hadn't stepped in

'Cuz Goblin then points out that May was there because of Holland, which is true. He said that he may have struck the blow, but it was Holland Parker that killed her. Also true. But Garfield had heard enough and tosses the cure to Holland who immediately stabs Osborn in the neck. Maguire smiles, still laying on his back. I honestly thought Goblin killed him when I first watched it

Goblin disappears and Norman returns to his normal self. He looks over and sees Maguire laying on his back and asked what he had done (as Goblin)

Garfield and Holland rush over to Maguire, who tells them he's fine as he's been stabbed before. He then notices the cracks that Strange had been trying to fix and wonders aloud if he's dying. But this is a HUGE moment in not only the story, but clearly in the MCU altogether

"Are there, people, in the sky?"

Holland rushes to Strange to see what's going on. Strange (his voice clearly shaken) tells him "they're starting to come through and I can't stop them"

Peter reasons there must be something they can do. He asks if he can just cast the spell again, but the original way before he screwed it up (FURTHER proving the stupidity of this plot from the beginning)
Strange tells him, "It's too late for that, they're here. They're here because of you"

So in response, Peter comes up with one final solution

"What if everyone forgot who I was"

Since everyone is coming through the timeline for him, cast a new spell to make the entire world forget about Peter Parker altogether. I'm not sure what this means for the Garfield and Maguire Parkers. Since this same spell is the one that sends them all home, doesn't that mean they should be forgotten as well?
Strange is reluctant for a surprising reason. He reveals his true feelings in that he had grown quite fond of the kid. He didn't want to forget him

"Yeah it would work....but you got to understand that would mean that everyone who knows and loves you, we.....we'd have no memory of you. It'd be as if you never existed"

Peter understands and gives his final stamp of approval. Strange gives him a moment to quickly say his good-byes. At this point I thought to myself 'wow, they're really going to do this....interesting'

He first goes to his fellow Spidey's. He thanks them, he hugs them, and Maguire coolly states "this is what we do". He did not tell them about the whole forget about PP thing, so I'm still confused on if that applies to them or not. Oh yeah, this shit is a big deal until I get my goddamn answer

Then Holland Peter has to have that heart-breaking conversation with his lady love and bff. That part was tough to watch. I wondered though, did he really need to tell them? I guess it doesn't matter, but then again after seeing how this movie ends maybe it does

Strange finalizes the spell and we watch the other Peter's and all of the villains that entertained us so greatly in the movie, just....vanish

Peter is then later walking down the street practicing what he's going to say to MJ. She and Ned are in the shop where MJ works, the same location where they earlier found out they didn't get into MIT
He sees MJ and Ned, who indeed do not recall who is he. As he begins to explain, he chickens out and orders a coffee instead. Peter and the audience then finds out that the Peter-less lives of MJ and Ned have led them to MIT

After a short exchange with MJ, Peter realizes that not only are their lives more successful without him in it, MJ's pessimism was also gone. Add to that one final comment about the scar on her head that he took to be a metaphor for the way she felt about her memory of him, and he decides to not reveal who is his to them after all, letting them get on with their better lives

"It doesn't really hurt anymore"

Peter visits the grave of his aunt. To his surprise, Happy stands beside him. He notices the irony of the moment. Until Happy opens his mouth

"How'd you know her?"

Although he doesn't mention him by name, Happy tells Peter that he lost Stark a while back (also had to be ironic as fuck for Peter), and likens the way he feels about May to that experience. Wondering if all that they stood for was gone too. Peter assures him it's not before they part ways

Peter rents an apartment, and I don't know where the fuck he came up with a deposit. We see he resume his Spider-Man duties from that apartment, but that kind of work don't pay the bills. We see that he's also studying to get his GED. And he kept the coffee cup that MJ gave him

He has somehow gotten his hands on a high-tech police scanner (okay seriously, somebody audit Peter's ass to see how he's getting his hands on this shit). Writer's Update: Hey dumb ass, you just said Peter visited his aunt's GRAVE! Obviously you know she had life insurance and you know she had a policy for her nephew as his guardian, smh. He exits the window when he hears of a disturbance, and he seems happily able to do his Spider-Man duties without having the weight of fear that people he really cared for would get hurt

But one thing that I didn't notice on first view, was how this film ended all existing connections with Spider-Man (owned by Sony) from the MCU. Stark had already died in Endgame. Then May died. Now Happy, MJ, Ned, and anyone in Civil War, Homecoming, or Far From Home have forgotten who he is. No one in the MCU knows who he is anymore....interesting

Yes, I picked this movie apart because that's what the fuck I do. I have also said repeatedly that it was entertaining. Ya know, once you turn your brain off and just enjoy it for what it is. I mean, it's hard for me to do that, but you just do the fuck you. And I'll do the same on my end. The film was bold and when your ambitions are as bold as they were here, it's going to be hard to get there without some snafu's. So I forgive them for their short comings. It was a super entertaining film I could watch again and again, like many Marvel movies; flaws and all. But y'all need to knock that greatest Marvel movie ever shit off tho
Finally, my thoughts on each character (minus Jameson because I couldn't think of anything else I haven't already said about him)

Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man
When you think about it, that's insane that you have to include the actor's name to not confuse anyone. When has that ever happened in a flick before? Anyway, as a day one MCU film fan, I liked Holland's take on Parker from the first time we're introduced to him in Captain America: Civil War. You could see why Tony was drawn to him from the beginning and we only continued to like him more since. With this film taking on the task of separating Spidey from the MCU, and with his contract being up, Holland's days in a Spidey suit may be numbered if not over already. But it was one hell of a run while it lasted

Michelle Jones Watson (MJ)
This character has evolved a lot in the three Spidey films. I'll be honest, I didn't see that version of her in Homecoming ever being able to sustain a healthy relationship. She's come a long way. But we have also been limited in how much of her we get, as she has only appeared in the three Spidey movies. Did you notice that? She has yet to make an appearance in another Marvel movie. Even Ned made brief appearances in Infinity War and Endgame. Regardless, her journey has been great through the three films. I enjoyed in Far From Home the way she kind of matter of factly figured out Peter was Spider-Man

Ned
Aww I love Ned. He was always just such a gentle soul, and you could tell from the beginning that he was a very good friend to Peter. Long before he found out who Peter really was. This included in the aforementioned Infinity War, when Peter told him he needed a distraction and Ned was on that shit. And in this film those were real tears falling from his eyes when Peter told them they'll forget who he is. Ned was a good friend to Peter to the very end

Aunt May Parker
We were introduced to this version of Aunt May in Civil War as well, and I was with Tony. Somebody's aunt my ass. I have never seen an aunt, anybody's aunt that looked that damn good. Marisa Tomei has uh taken excellent care of herself, it would appear. (When you gone let me fuck Ms Parker?) But I thought it was dope that Aunt May always believed in her nephew. That moral authority shit was annoying but that's not on her. That's a Marvel thing. And she started the whole thing with calling Peter's famous Spidey Sense his Peter Tingle, much to his dismay. But he ended up calling it that himself to the other Spider-Dudes in this film

Happy Hogan
Happy is hilarious. The perfect right hand-man for Stark's smart-assness. Did you know that in addition to playing Happy, Jon Favreau also directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2? Now with Stark being gone and he not remembering Peter, I wonder how much life Happy has in the future MCU as well. But Happy will always have a place in the Hall of Fame of the MCU not only for playing Happy, but for directing the film that kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first place

Doctor Strange
So my favorite Avenger was Iron Man. As I never read the comics, I had never heard of Strange. But given my full dedication to the MCU films (and how they all tie together) I watched his movie when it came out. I didn't expect to like his story and his character as much as I did. And Benedict Cumberbatch played him so well, capturing that douchebagness pre-accident, to evolving into someone you would believe is actually a hero. His solo film also has one of my all-time favorite actors in Chiwetel Ejiofor. Since I really liked the Strange character, I absolutely loved his clashing with Tony in Infinity War! "Protecting your reality....douchebag". It was two douchebags going head to head, then teaming up to battle a greater threat. So now, Doctor Strange is my favorite MCU character still living. And I can't wait to see Dr Strange 2, as I was so happy to see my boy Chiwetel will be returning. I may actually go see that one in the theater

Norman Osborn / Green Goblin
I remember back in 2002 when there was a new movie out called Spider-Man. This was before the MCU existed in main stream films, and the only superhero movies I was interested in seeing at that time were Batman movies. I had no desire to watch this Spider-Man movie, and Tobey Maguire's mouth always annoyed me when he speaks, and I didn't want to be subjected to that shit on a big screen. Then the movie broke a box office record at the time. Suddenly I was curious to see what was the big deal. To my surprise, I ended up falling in love with the movie. It was such an entertaining flick. But most of all I loved Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the Goblin. It wasn't just that he was good at it. Anyone who has ever seen him in anything can tell you the man can act his ass off. But this was different. There are great actors who can play the shit out of anything they play. Then there's times when the casting is just spot on. Whenever you can connect both of those, when it's cast to perfection AND the actor really delivers, you get an out of this world performance. I thought that was such from Mr Dafoe in the first Spider-Man, and I thought he somehow managed to one up that performance in this film. This leads me to conclude that anytime he's called on to play Goblin, he's going to knock that shit out of the park. That role was made for him. And I believe he stole the show in this movie

Dr Otto Octavious / Doc Ock
After I fell in love with the first Spider-Man film (not to mention Tobey's mouth didn't bother me as much as I thought it would), I like everyone else was excited for the sequel. As I said I never read the comics, so I wasn't aware of the villains. But I had seen that my man Alfred Molina was playing the villain in this one, and I liked him from playing the villain in another one of my favorite movies from the 90's called Maverick. That first Spider-Man trilogy, particularly the first two films, really did a great job in casting its villains. Mr Molina clearly has the acting chops, and his character in that film started off like his character ended up in this film after taking the antidote. But an unfortunate accident changed his world and made him bitter. I enjoyed him being brought back in this movie as well, and I thought he killed it once again as Ock. I wondered why he looked so young though, and thought maybe he was on the same regimen as Marisa Tomei. But I found out he was digitally made to look younger

Max Dillon / Electro
Jamie Foxx is a long time removed from his Oscar winning days. But this Spider-Man series seems to be a redemption of sorts for many actors past their glory. And, like Mr Dafoe and Mr Molina, Mr Foxx makes the best of his resurgence here as well. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a bit of a let down to me, as I've only watched it once after surprisingly really liking The Amazing Spider-Man. But I did remember Max's storyline "shit, gotta be careful where you fall" lol. Some of Electro's lines were really terrible in this movie.... "How you like this new new?" (smh) But the character was developed enough and Mr Foxx brought just enough charm to the performance to avoid making it a mockery

Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker / Spider-Man
While Alfred Molina was de-aged in this movie, apparently all of the de-aging budget was spent on him. The filmmakers didn't have enough money to provide the same thing for Tobey Maguire. As a result, he ends up looking old as fuck for a Spider-Man. I mean, dude was like 48 when he filmed the original trilogy. And all his old ass did was confuse me more about the presence of Jameson. That is not to say that I had a problem with Mr Maguire. Like the villains, I think all three Spideys were perfectly cast for their series. And the chemistry between all three of them was undeniable. Tobey Maguire started this whole thing, so he will always have a spot in the Spidey HoF right beside Mr Dafoe

Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker / Spider-Man
I would say that Garfield PP was probably the one of the three I liked the most. I think because I could identify with him more than the other two. He arguably carries more pain and seems to be more vulnerable than the other two. He also is the only one who openly expresses self-doubt. He legit hung his head in shame with Electro delivered another whack ass line "you ain't even the shit no more". And who could forget his emotional reaction to saving MJ, when he had already told us he'll never be able to forgive himself for not saving his own girl. He and Jamie Foxx were just unfairly dinged for the awful writing of The ASM 2. But they did the best they could with what they had to work with

Wong
Oh...I haven't forgotten about Wong. I haven't forgotten anything about Wong, the new Sorcerer Supreme on a technicality. The same Wong that in Infinity War, said they took an oath with their lives to protect the Time Stone. But then when Ebony Maw took the stone and Strange, Wong's ass just casually mentions the stone had been taken and that he's going the fuck home. Bruh, I thought you took an oath to.....nevermind. And my question is, who appointed Wong as SS on the technicality? I have so many questions. And is it me, or does it seem like Strange and Wong never get along?
