Music Podcasts

Aight so here's the deal. Back in 2016 when I was still deep in them podcasting streets, I added a music show to my podcast network lineup, and there would be nothing I ever released on my network that would even come close to the number of downloads the music show got

I should probably explain the format before revealing what it was called. Yes, it was a music podcast, but it was still a podcast. As a podcast producer, I was more interested in the conversation that music brought about, with the music itself being a close second

But some of my listeners really wanted to hear just the music and not the talking. I think they wanted it to be more like the radio, but I think there's lots of comedy surrounding the music, and if we didn't talk through it those moments may be missed. Or if there was a specific part of a song that brought about a thought or a story, I wanted to give my guests the freedom to express their thoughts during their episode. So beginning with episode 3, we take two breaks during the one-on-one shows

The idea behind the podcast was I would have a different guest for each episode (we would later introduce group shows), and the guest picked the music topic. Then each guest would pick five songs in that topic of their choice. I would pick five songs of my own for the topic as well. On the podcast we would start with their list and alternate playing a song from their list that the person who picked it introduces. After the first five songs are played, we take a break and play about a minute and a half of the songs from the first half of the show uninterrupted, enough time to see if you really like it and Shazam it if you do. Then we come back and do the second half of the podcast and close it out with the mix of the last five songs played. When we had group shows, we would take no break, and instead play the mix of each person's song choices at the end of the episode

It wasn't really a competition, but the initial concept was like a "your five vs my five" kinda vibe, with no winner determined and the only winners being the audience who got a great podcast. Also taking a part of a song (verse), my desire for (us) to have a great convo about music, and my love of play on words, the name of the podcast was Vers(us)

This podcast was the most work for me to put together, but I loved every single second of it. I began my podcast network in 2015, and honestly, I don't think I could have produced that show in 2015. But in that calendar year I got tons of experience as a podcast producer, and even more so by the summer of 2016 when I dropped the show; a little over a year after I started the network. And my theory has always been if you do anything regularly/daily, you're bound to get great at it. I'm proud of all of my shit I put out on my network, but I'm especially proud of my music podcast. And I don't think music or comedy ever gets old/irrelevant, so......

For a limited time, I'm rereleasing 26 of the 27 episodes of Vers(us) I produced from 2016 - 2017 on this site. These have been in the vault (hahaha bitch you ain't Disney) the last couple of years and are now available for your entertainment. Click here
But wait.....you know the rest

After the success of the music show, in 2017 I stumbled upon the music of a gentleman who would become my favorite singer who goes by the name of Lyle Divinsky. I was super excited about his music when I first discovered it, and since my main music podcast topics were determined by my guest, I knew no one would pick it if they didn't know about it

Realizing I'm pretty fucking entertaining on my own and being equipped with an excitement about this music, I decided to go solo and record my own music podcast featuring Lyle's music, and the music of the band that introduced me to Lyle's voice by way of a feature on their new album at that time, The Suffers. Much to my surprise, this episode turned out to be as popular as the regular music show
I really liked the name Vers(us) if I must say so myself, so I didn't want to depart from that, and I wanted to specifically keep the shows connected while letting the audience know there was one key change for this one. So this podcast was called Vers(us) Solo. Yeah, I know how ridiculous it sounds grammatically, but this is what I was creating at that time. Get your own goddamn podcast and you can call it whatever you want ;)

But then, beginning at the end of 2018 and lasting until the following year, I basically blew my life up piece by piece. It started with a big disagreement with my mother, and that just trickled down to basically the rest of my family, who made up the majority of the on-air personalities of MY podcast network. Ultimately I removed myself from that family completely

Obviously, this affected my network. I would also withdraw myself from my podcast circle of friends at that time, who made up the majority of the guest on-air personalities on the network. So, finding myself alone, I turned to my solo music podcast (and edibles) for comfort and entertainment. And during this time, I would go on to record 10 more solo music podcasts for a total of 11.
